Dallas-based hatter Harry Rolnick partners with Michigan investor Edward Byer to create Byer-Rolnick Hat Co., opening dress hat shop in Downtown Dallas. Long before factory lines hummed in Garland, Texas and Resistol hat brims provided shade from open ranges to boardrooms, a young man was born in Brooklyn, New York. His name was Harry Rolnick.
Born in 1900 to immigrant parents, Rolnick came of age in a country that cherished both polish and perseverance. In 1917, his family moved to Dallas and opened a small hat renovation shop, Rolnick Bros. Hat Co. Rolnick would continue his family’s legacy of craftsmanship with the expansion of the family company.
Joining forces with Edward R. Byer, an industrialist from the Midwest with a keen eye for business and a fondness for hats. Together, in 1927, Byer and Rolnick established the company that would shape their legacy and the future of hats, the Byer-Rolnick Hat Co., better known today as RHE Hatco.
