Resistol x PRCA: The Original Rodeo Partnership

For over six decades, Resistol has stood at the intersection of tradition and performance—shaping rodeo history, one cowboy hat at a time.

From the arena to the winner’s circle, the name Resistol has long been synonymous with the rodeo cowboy. As one of the first official sponsors of both the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) and the Wrangler Nationals Final Rodeo (NFR), Resistol has played a foundational role in supporting the sport and the cowboys who live it.

The History Of The PRCA

The PRCA stands as the oldest and largest rodeo-sanctioning body in the world.

Originally founded in 1929 as the Rodeo Association of America, the organization sanctioned events such as bronc riding, bull riding, bareback riding, calf roping, steer roping, bulldogging, team roping and wild cow milking. In 1946, it became known as the International Rodeo Association (IRA).

Meanwhile, in 1936, a group of determined cowboys banded together to form the Cowboys Turtle Association, humorously naming themselves after the turtle to reflect how slowly they organization, but noting they “stuck their necks out” when it mattered. By 1945, this group had evolved into the Rodeo Cowboys Association (RCA).

With the closure of the IRA in 1955, the RCA emerged as the primary governing body for professional rodeo. In 1975, it adopted its current name, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
